WELCOME TO BUILDING "ALLIE KAT"
Lineage
The Somes Sound 12 1/2 was designed by John Brooks. The boat is an updated blend of the Nathanael Herreshoff 12 1/2 and the Joel White designed Haven 12 1/2 which is a centerboard version of the Herreschoff.
Brooks designed the SS 12 1/2 with the amateur builder in mind. Construction is glued plywood lapstrake planking over cut "web frames" and molds. The stem is made up of glued veneers. The rest of the boat is constructed with traditional methods and materials. It has the classic shape and sailing qualities of the Herresoff and includes the retractable centerboard introduced by White in the Haven.
